One of our team will meet you at Windhoek International Airport and transfer you to your accommodation.
Depending on your arrival time, we assemble and fit the mountain bikes and make sure everything is ready for the tour.
If there is enough time, we go for an easy first ride at Farm Windhoek. The trails here are a good place to get used to the bike and enjoy your first ride in Namibia.
In the evening, we have dinner together at Joe’s Beerhouse or another interesting local restaurant and talk through the days ahead.
After breakfast, we leave Windhoek and travel southwest through the Khomas Hochland towards the Namib Escarpment.
We bike part of the way towards Namibgrens, using quiet gravel roads and tracks through the mountains.
Namibgrens lies high on the escarpment with wide views towards the Namib Desert.
There are also some nice farm roads and mountain bike trails around the lodge, which we can ride in the afternoon or the following morning.
We finish the day with a sundowner and dinner.
After breakfast, we get onto our bikes and ride towards Spreetshoogte Pass.
From the viewpoint, there are wonderful views across the Namib Desert.
We then bike down the steep and scenic Spreetshoogte Pass and continue on quieter roads in the direction of Solitaire.
After the ride, we load the bikes and drive via Bullsport to Tsauchab River Camp, situated between the Naukluft and Zebra Mountains.
If time allows, we can go for a short afternoon ride or walk one of the trails around the camp.
Today we enjoy the area around Tsauchab River Camp.
One of our rides takes us towards Neuras, where vineyards have been established in this very dry part of Namibia.
We can ride there and back or adapt the distance depending on the group. There is also the possibility of enjoying a wine tasting.
The afternoon is free to relax, walk in the mountains or simply enjoy the peaceful surroundings.
Today we visit one of Namibia’s best-known highlights: Sossusvlei.
We drive into the Namib-Naukluft National Park and visit Sossusvlei and Dead Vlei, surrounded by some of the highest red sand dunes in the world.
Those who want to can climb one of the dunes for views across the desert.
Around lunchtime, we leave the park and continue to Namib Desert Lodge.
In the afternoon, we can enjoy a short bike ride, go for a walk in the dunes or simply relax at the lodge.
Today we cross the Namib Desert towards the Atlantic coast.
We travel through the Namib-Naukluft Park and bike in the area around Blutkoppe, an impressive granite mountain rising from the open desert plains.
This is enjoyable riding on quiet tracks and gravel roads through a wide-open desert landscape.
After the ride, we continue to Swakopmund.
If time allows, we can take a short ride around town or along the coast before checking into our accommodation.
This morning, we travel to Walvis Bay for a catamaran cruise.
The bay is home to seals, dolphins, pelicans and other marine life and gives us a completely different view of Namibia.
In the afternoon, there is time to explore Swakopmund.
An optional guided fat-bike tour through the dunes can also be arranged. This is a fun way to experience the coastal desert on specially designed bikes with wide tyres.
Alternatively, enjoy the town, visit one of the cafés or relax near the sea.
Today we are back on our mountain bikes.
We ride through the Moon Landscape and the Swakop River area. This strange and beautiful landscape of dry riverbeds, rocky hills and desert plains is one of the most interesting places to bike near Swakopmund.
Depending on the route, we can ride a circular route or continue through the Moon Landscape towards Goanikontes Oasis.
After the ride, we load the bikes and drive inland past Spitzkoppe towards the Erongo Mountains.
We arrive at Ai-Aiba Lodge in the late afternoon and enjoy a relaxed evening amongst the granite mountains.
After breakfast, we spend the morning biking in the Erongo Mountains.
Ai-Aiba has some very enjoyable mountain bike trails through granite hills, dry riverbeds and open savannah.
We take our time and enjoy the area until around an early lunch.
Afterwards, we load the bikes and continue via Uis towards Twyfelfontein in Damaraland.
The scenery changes as we travel north, with wide gravel plains, sandstone mountains and dry river valleys.
We arrive at our lodge in the Twyfelfontein area in the afternoon.
Today we experience two very different sides of Damaraland.
In the morning, we head into the Huab River area with a local guide to search for Namibia’s desert-adapted elephants.
These elephants move through the dry river systems in search of food and water and are one of the special wildlife experiences of northwestern Namibia.
Later, we get back onto our mountain bikes.
We ride an interesting circular route through the sandstone landscapes west of Twyfelfontein, in the direction of the Doros Crater area.
We also have time to visit the famous Twyfelfontein rock engravings, a UNESCO World Heritage Site with thousands of ancient rock engravings.
We leave Twyfelfontein and travel towards Khorixas.
From here, we get onto our bikes and ride towards Vingerklip on a good gravel road.
This is enjoyable, flowing cycling through open countryside and interesting geological scenery.
Vingerklip, or “Finger Rock”, rises high above the surrounding Ugab terraces.
After our ride, we enjoy lunch in the Vingerklip area before continuing by vehicle towards Etosha National Park.
Today we leave the bikes behind and spend the day on safari in Etosha National Park.
Our guide takes us through the park, visiting waterholes and looking for Namibia’s wildlife.
Etosha is home to elephant, giraffe, zebra, wildebeest, springbok and many other animals. We also have the chance to see lion, rhino and other wildlife.
After many days on the bikes, it is nice to spend a day relaxing in the safari vehicle and enjoying one of Southern Africa’s best-known wildlife areas.
After breakfast, we travel south towards Otjiwa Nature Reserve.
In the afternoon, we get onto our bikes for our final ride of the tour.
Otjiwa has a network of farm roads, jeep tracks and trails through the reserve.
It is a special place to bike because we ride amongst wildlife such as giraffe and different antelope species, in areas without dangerous animals.
Towards the end of the ride, we enjoy a sundowner overlooking the valleys to the west, towards the Omaruru and Erongo Mountains.
It is a great way to finish our Namibia mountain bike tour.
After breakfast, we leave Otjiwa and drive back towards Windhoek.
Depending on the flight time, we continue directly to Windhoek International Airport for the flight home.
Our Namibia Classic Bike Tour comes to an end after two weeks of biking, wildlife, desert landscapes and travelling through some of the most interesting parts of Namibia.
