General Information...

How does a bike tour work?
We cover almost the same daily distances that a vehicle safari would complete in a day. With clever planning we drive the less scenic sections  whereas we enjoy the most spectacular one's on our bicycles, driving a variety of quality of dirt road and track. Some stages are faster on the better dirt roads where other stages are more challenging and adventurous off road routes. The tour is supported by a professional back-up team and very practical bike trailers that make loading and off-loading easy and fast. The combined choice of good lodges and beautiful campsites, makes the bike tour an enjoyable outdoor experience without sacrificing the comforts of a good bed and a hearty meal.

Surely you need to be top fit to do these tours?
No! That is not the case at all. A wide variety of people can join these tours, provided that you have a reasonable level of fitness. On any cycle stage of the tour, the faster cyclists can go ahead while the slower one's go at their own comfortable pace. The tour is not a race. There is time to enjoy the beautiful scenery and take photos. Of course, if some of the guests would like to challenge each other on a given stage, they are welcome too. All it would mean is that they reach the days campsite/lodge earlier for a cold refreshing beer or swim!

Many of our guests have been over sixty year old, there is no age limit, just a desire to see Namibia and burn some calories. The advantage of back-up vehicles means that when the biking gets a bit tough on a particular stage, then one climb into the safari vehicle and continue the final kilometers in air-conditioned luxury.

We have a variety of tours covering different parts of Namibia. You may choose a tour that suits you which may be between 1 and 3 weeks.

More about the tours :
We usually travel with 1-2 vehicles on these tours. We have a specially designed trailers from which we can load/offload the bikes with ease and regularly, without trouble. All the camping material, food, drinks and other supplies are carried on/in the trailers that we take along. At certain stages we replenish our supplies along the way. We are also accommodated at a number of lodges and will eat meals that are on offer when appropriate. The support vehicle is constantly behind the cyclists (just out of view) , to be available at all times to assist guests with technical or other problems. Guests that are tired may continue in the vehicle/s while others are still cycling, if tired. An extra driver/camp assistant comes along and is there to drive back-up, set up camp, wash dishes and so on. We will prepare all meals at campsites. Guests may assist with putting up /breaking down their tents and a few other chores if necessary.

The tour is not a race. The idea is for everyone to complete each stage without any pressure. Even though some guests might race ahead, someone will be assisting with those taking it a little slower. There is a briefing mornings and evenings to make sure everyone understands the following days route and can raise any questions or concerns.
